09/16 - 09/21

Thanks to everyone that helped with the fundraisers we organized this weekend.  The schedule for the week is below:


Mon (9/16): Sectionals--3:30-5 PM... there will be a short meeting for any students interested in Indoor Ensembles (Guard, Percussion and Winds) immediately after rehearsal

Tues (9/17): Rehearsal--3:30-6 PM

Thurs (9/19): Rehearsal--3:30-6 PM

Fri (9/20): Home football game--report to the band room at 5:30 PM

Sat (9/21): Butler County Contest--report to the band room at 8:30 AM (an itinerary for the day will be sent home Monday)


If you are interested in chaperoning on contest days please contact Julie Stemple directly.  We need three chaperones for the bus.

The room list for the NY trip will be finalized on Sept 13th.  Parents that are attending need to reply to the previous email and let me know what their rooming plans are.  Students need to sign up on the hard copy room list that will be posted in the band room tomorrow.

No practice on Monday (9/2), enjoy the day off!

The afterschool schedule for the week is below:

Tues (9/3): Full Ensemble 3:30-6

Thurs (9/5): Full Ensemble 3:30-6

Sat (9/7): Camp Day 8-4, lunch will be provided, attendance is mandatory.  Honors society students are excused for their function at KWC.  

Great job at the ballgame this past Friday, a special thanks to all of the boosters that sold programs, helped with props, got water for the members etc...

Below is the weekly schedule for after school events:

8/26 (Mon): Sectionals, 3:30-5:00 PM

8/27 (Tues): Full Ensemble Rehearsal, 3:30-6:00 PM

8/29 (Thurs): Full Ensemble Rhearsal, 3:30-6:00 PM

8/30 (Fri):  Football Game vs OCHS, report at 5:30 PM (DCHS Band Room) kick off at 7:00 PM

For Friday's football game all members of the hornline and percussion are to wear a DC Pride shirt or a white DC Band/DCHS tshirt and khaki shorts.  Colorguard members are to wear a DC Pride shirt or a white DC Band/DCHS tshirt and leggings.

Please also note that butter braid turn in is on Wednesday of this week, everyone needs to participate in this fundraiser in some form!  Lastly, please encourage your children to turn in their weekly practice log and stay on top of their video assignments.

Your children should have received Butterbraid sale information this past Wednesday, please make sure that they sell six items or elect to participate in the buy out option for this fundraiser. Attached to this email is the shirt order form for this season's show shirt. In order to receive their shirt for the season ALL MEMBERS must submit an order form by Wednesday--even if you don't plan on ordering additional show shirts for the rest of your family. We will place our shirt order Wednesday after school, this will be your only opportunity to purchase show themed shirts. Below is the after school schedule for the week; with only two weeks to our first performance it is extremely important that students are at all scheduled rehearsals for their full duration.

Mon (8/19): sectionals, 3:30-5:00 PM.

Tues (8/20): full ensemble, 3:30-6:00 PM.

Thurs (822): full ensemble, 3:30-6:00 PM.

08/05 - 08/09

Schedule for the coming week:


Mon (8/5): Rehearsal 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM

>We will be taking some group pictures for the fall sports program... students need to wear a white shirt and black shorts

>Seniors report at 3:30 PM for "seniors only group photos"


Thurs (8/8) Rehearsal 3:30 PM - 6:00 PM


During the school week students need to dress appropriately (or bring a suitable change of clothes) for outside rehearsals on Mon, Tues and Thurs.  Students are always responsible for having water and sunscreen at outdoor practices.  The 4th block course syllabus will go home this Wednesday.  I would like the last page signed and returned by Friday. 


Lastly, I will begin putting in grades this Friday.  The first fall semester grade will be a check off of the national anthem.  A significant majority of the performers with national anthem responsibilities have already passed all of this or most of this off from memory.  If you see an IC grade on Friday that surprises you please remember that students can take, and retake, this playing exam as many times as they need before the end of the first nine weeks (as with all playing tests) for full credit.  The band staff and I expect all students to continue to attempt playing exams until the music is learned.  Please check with your student to make sure that they are on top of this assignment as we will need to move on to other literature in order to prepare for football games, contests and concerts.

07/15 - 07/19

Congratulations on a successful week of pre-camp activities. This week's schedule is simple, all members are expected to be at DCHS for band camp from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM this week. Lunch will be provided, all students need to bring a gallon of water, sunscreen, hat and rain jacket. Please remember that all of our scheduled rehearsals are important and mandatory. Students are expected to attend all of rehearsals; absences need to be communicated to Mr. Payton or myself in advance.

Donations Needed!

From the Food Committee: We are needing donations of bottled water, individual bags of chips, protein bars, granola bars, cheese or peanut butter crackers, Motts gummies, snacks, etc. to help supplement the lunches for band camp (if your child will eat them, they will too). These items can be brought in at any time. Items not used during band camp will be used other camp or competition days. Questions can be referred to Alicia Wilkerson, Pam Craig, Rena Hamilton, or Amy Vitato.

Please make sure the schedules below are read carefully. We have many rehearsals occurring this week for specific sections of the band at very specific times due to space constraints at the high school. Section schedules are listed below for the color guard, horn line and percussion sections.

7/8: Booster Meeting (Exec Board at 6:00 PM; General Meeting at 7:00 PM) Location--Choir Room

Rehearsal Schedules

Color Guard: 7/8, 7/9, 7/11, 7/12; 4:00 – 8:00 PM (DCHS Band Room)

Horn Line: 7/8-7/12; 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM (DCHS Band Room)

Percussion: 7/8 & 7/13 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM (DCHS Band Room and class rooms)

Even though these rehearsals are to take place inside ALL STUDENTS NEED TO BRING A GALLON OF WATER to each practice. This will allow students to hydrate as needed and will begin to build the habits that are crucial for outdoor rehearsals that will occur next week.
