Mr. DuWayne C. Dale, Director of Bands
DuWayne Dale is a native of Mt. Sterling, KY and 1994 Graduate of Montgomery County High School. He received his B.M.E. (1998) and M.M. Ed. (2007) from Morehead State University. Prior to joining the faculty of DCHS in 2009, Mr. Dale served for four years (1999-2003) as Associate Director of Bands at Stebbins High School in Dayton, OH and six years (2003-2009) as Director of Bands at Grant County High School in Dry Ridge, KY. Bands and orchestras under his leadership have consistently received distinguished ratings. Mr. Dale is currently pursuing his Doctorate in Music Education at Boston University and his Rank I at the University of Kentucky. He is a member of The Kentucky Music Educators Association, The National Association for Music Education, and The National Band Association and has been published in GIA Publications' Teaching Music Though Performance in Band, Vol. 7 and as a contributor to School Band and Orchestra Magazine.
At DCHS, Mr. Dale is responsible for leading the Marching Band, Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, Pep Bands, and Pit Orchestra. He also teaches beginning and AP Music Theory and Arts and Humanities and assists Mr. Manire and Mr. Ruckdeschel at CVMS and DCMS. Mr. Mike N. Clark, Assistant Director
Mike Clark is a former Director of Bands at Daviess County High School where he retired in 2003. He received both his B.M.E. and M.M.E. from Austin Peay State University. During a 29 year public school teaching career, he directed bands at several high schools in Kentucky. His performing groups consistently received distinguished ratings, including eight “final 4” appearances at the Kentucky State Championships in three different classes. As a member of the Kentucky Music Education Association, Mr. Clark has served as state band chair, district 2 president, as well as a member of the initial marching band board of control that planned and established the Kentucky State Marching Band Championships. Among many other awards, Mr. Clark received the 1992 Secondary Teacher of the Year award from Hopkins County (KY) Schools and was named High School Music Teacher of the Year by KMEA in 1995, 1998, and 2001. Phi Beta Mu, the national bandmasters fraternity, selected Mr. Clark as its Outstanding Bandmaster in 2004.
At DCHS, Mr. Clark assists with the marching band and symphonic band and directs the DCHS Jazz Band. He lives in Philpot with his wife, Julie, and their youngest son, Neal. His two older sons, Nathan and Andrew, are music majors at Murray State University.
